Igor Mattio

Igor Mattio is an Italian-born, New York–based visual artist working primarily with photography. Trained in painting at the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti in Turin, he later turned to photography as his principal medium, bringing to it a strong attention to composition, surface, gesture, and the physical presence of the body.

His work frequently focuses on the male figure, exploring masculinity, identity, intimacy, and the ways the body is shaped by cultural expectations. Mattio works across black-and-white and color photography, often combining carefully constructed images with moments that retain a sense of immediacy and human presence.

Recent projects include SKIN. And Under. — Evolving Young Machos. Or Not. and Skin and Grace — Episode I: Gazing Soft. Skin and Grace was developed in Cuba with professional dancers and exists as both a photobook and a documentary film, extending the photographic project through interviews, movement, and personal testimony.

His photographs are presented in artist books and as individually produced fine-art prints, including traditional gelatin silver prints made in limited editions.
Mattio lives and works in New York.
